Background
Our team empowers users with trustworthy, intuitive, and insight‑driven tools that make it easy to understand the impact of their choices, confidently validate ideas, and seamlessly navigate every step of their journey.
We use Optimizely as the base tool for A/B testing and have built a new user interface on top of it, tailored to the needs of the product teams at IKEA who run experiments.
We have also built an SDK for ikea.com that serves as a wrapper for the Optimizely SDK.
Right now, we are exploring the future of A/B testing—both how we want to operate internally at IKEA and which tool we will use going forward.
To support this transformation, we need a consultant with hands‑on experience using A/B testing tools in real product development—someone who understands what users need to run experiments and can help us shape an excellent experimentation experience at IKEA.
The consultant will join a cross‑functional team where engineering and product work closely together. While the core experimentation engine will be a bought‑in product, our current technology landscape includes TypeScript, Preact, Cloudflare, GCP, GitHub Actions, and Terraform.
The scope of the consultant services is to assist IKEA in
Collaborating closely with developers, product, stakeholders, and users to understand user needs and improve the overall experimentation experience.
Designing and implementing integrations between the chosen A/B testing platform and IKEA’s web and backend systems.
Building and maintaining SDKs, APIs, and tooling supporting experimentation workflows.
Supporting technical evaluation of future possible A/B testing solutions.
Contributing to general software engineering work within the team.
Requirements:
Desired knowledge, experience, competence, skills etc
Proven hands‑on experience running A/B experiments as a developer using tools such as Optimizely, Spotify Confidence, Adobe Target, or similar.
Experienced TypeScript developer who can navigate the codebase confidently.
Understanding of the experiment lifecycle from a developer perspective (feature flags, targeting, bucketing, events, common pitfalls)
Preferred:
Previous experience running experiments at IKEA or familiarity with IKEA’s digital ecosystem.
Experience from working with Events.
Experience with cloud environments.
Soft skills:
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work closely with both engineering and product.
User‑centric mindset and interest in simplifying experimentation workflows for developers.
Clear communicator, curious, and driven by enabling teams to make data‑informed decisions.
What 3 things from the box above are most important?
Hands‑on experience using A/B testing tools as a developer
Strong engineering capabilities in TypeScript or similar languages relevant for integration work.
Ability to understand A/B‑test user needs and build high‑quality experimentation tooling and integrations.
